Liberty appoints new London flagship store director

On this episode of Talking Shop I’m joined by Alain Bejjani—former Group CEO of Middle East retail giant Majid Al Futtaim, and author of the definitive new book, NEXT: Leading Through the New Realities. Drawing on his childhood in war-torn Beirut, and his experience steering a $9.5bn dollar retail and lifestyle empire through a global pandemic, Alain brings an unmatched perspective on leadership under pressure. Today, we break down his crisis survival playbook for retailers operating in distress. We discuss why resilience must always outpace efficiency, the four assets a brand must protect at all costs, and how to turn macro-turmoil into a long-term direction that scales.

Liberty has appointed Beverley Devonish as store director of its Regent Street flagship, as the British department store marks its 150th anniversary.

Devonish joins with more than 20 years’ experience in luxury fashion and retail, having previously held senior roles at Harvey Nichols, Selfridges and Dover Street Market.

In her new role, Devonish will lead Liberty’s store team in delivering its commercial and cultural strategy, with a focus on improving customer experience, developing staff, and enhancing Liberty’s standing as a “world-class retail destination”.

She will also contribute to cross-departmental strategy and maintain Liberty’s visual presentation, brand storytelling and service standards.

Devonish’s appointment follows the hiring of Lydia King as group buying and merchandising director earlier this year, as Liberty seeks to align its commercial functions ahead of future growth.

Devonish said: “Having spent the last year and a half developing my own creative practice, I’m thrilled to join Liberty – a brand that has long stood at the intersection of art, culture, and retail innovation.

“With its rich heritage and commitment to creativity, Liberty offers an incredible platform to continue shaping meaningful, client-focused experiences that celebrate individuality and craftsmanship. It’s exciting to be part of an environment that champions creativity while staying true to authenticity.”
