M&S has urged Deputy PM Angela Rayner to give the go ahead to controversial plans for the demolition of its Marble Arch flagship store

According to This is Money, Rayner is currently reviewing the plans which were previously blocked by the Conservatives.

M&S wants to demolish its Marble Arch site, which sits in a 1929 art deco building, to make space for a larger ten stories retail and office block.

In July 2023, Michael Gove had blocked the retailer’s plans to demolish the building over concerns that they would harm nearby landmarks, including the grade II listed Selfridges building.

Sacha Berendji, M&S operations director, said: “Unlocking this investment would send a clear message that the planning system will support sustainable growth.”
