Babbico appoints former Mothercare head as new CEO

On this episode of Talking Shop I’m joined by Alain Bejjani—former Group CEO of Middle East retail giant Majid Al Futtaim, and author of the definitive new book, NEXT: Leading Through the New Realities. Drawing on his childhood in war-torn Beirut, and his experience steering a $9.5bn dollar retail and lifestyle empire through a global pandemic, Alain brings an unmatched perspective on leadership under pressure. Today, we break down his crisis survival playbook for retailers operating in distress. We discuss why resilience must always outpace efficiency, the four assets a brand must protect at all costs, and how to turn macro-turmoil into a long-term direction that scales.

Baby clothing retailer Babbico has appointed former CEO of Mothercare, Dan Le Vesconte, as CEO, with effect from 1 January 2024.

Le Vesconte stepped down from his previous role as CEO of Mothercare in June 2023. Prior to Mothercare, Le Vesconte held senior roles at Abercrombie & Fitch as GVP global brands EMEA and head of global corporate development, Dr Martens as president EMEA, Wolverine Worldwide as managing director Europe and VF Corporation as VP/GM Vans and Reef EMEA.

Regarding the new role, Le Vesconte said: “Laura and Laura are such inspiring founders who have already built a fantastic brand. I’m so excited to be joining them at this key time for the business as we move forward in securing incremental investment and continue to drive growth through our owned DTC channel as well as new and existing wholesale partners.”

Marsh, co-founder of Babbico, said: “We’re excited to welcome Dan to the team not only as our CEO but also as an investor. His extensive experience and expertise will play a significant role in the growth of the brand. As well as his outstanding retail and leadership experience, Dan brings complementary skills in both product and marketing, ideal support for ambitious start-up brands like Babbico.”

Co-founder Storan also said: “We’re energised and ready for this next stage of growth and to have Dan on board will form part of our brand DNA that will shape our team, fuel passion and propel Babbico to new heights.”
