ScS appoints new non-executive director

On this episode of Talking Shop I’m joined by Alain Bejjani—former Group CEO of Middle East retail giant Majid Al Futtaim, and author of the definitive new book, NEXT: Leading Through the New Realities. Drawing on his childhood in war-torn Beirut, and his experience steering a $9.5bn dollar retail and lifestyle empire through a global pandemic, Alain brings an unmatched perspective on leadership under pressure. Today, we break down his crisis survival playbook for retailers operating in distress. We discuss why resilience must always outpace efficiency, the four assets a brand must protect at all costs, and how to turn macro-turmoil into a long-term direction that scales.

ScS, the upholstered furniture and flooring retailer, has announced the appointment of Swarupa Pathakji to the role of a non-executive director with effect from 2 May 2023.

In her new role, Pathakji will become a member of the audit, remuneration and nomination committees.

Pathakji is a director of Kings Yard Arms, where she is chair of the nomination and remuneration committees and a member of the audit and risk committee.

She is also a non-executive director of value retailer OFS (DS) Holdings Ltd where she is chair of the audit committee.

Pathakji previously worked at both Merrill Lynch and, more recently, at Duke Street, a mid-market private equity firm, where she served as a non-executive director on the boards of a number of companies.

Commenting on her appointment, Pathakji said: “I am pleased to be joining SCS at an exciting time for the business. I have been impressed with the strength of the board and the management team and I look forward to working with them to achieve their plans for the future.”

Alan Smith, non-executive chairman of ScS, added: “I am delighted to welcome Swarupa to the ScS board. Her varied financial experience and widespread knowledge of customer-facing businesses will be invaluable to the group.”
