The Fragrance Shop to open flagship store on London’s Oxford Street

On this episode of Talking Shop, we're joined by Dan Cate, CEO and Founder of SoldThrough. Dan is a heavyweight retail executive who has spent decades steering the merchandising and digital operations of America’s most iconic retail institutions, from Saks Fifth Avenue and Bloomingdale’s to Century 21 and Lord & Taylor. Today, through his platform SoldThrough, Dan helps international fashion brands cross the Atlantic and crack the notoriously brutal U.S. retail landscape. We break down his journey from the shop floor to the C-suite, the operational indicators that prove a brand is truly ready for international expansion, and how to navigate a fragmented American market without destroying your margins. We also discuss how to balance localised inventory with central efficiency, and the one non-negotiable metric that tells you a product has found genuine market fit.

The Fragrance Shop has confirmed it is to open a brand new flagship global experiential store on Oxford Street later this summer.

The move will mark the first time the UK independent fragrance retailer will open a flagship shop in London. The 2,300 sq ft location will feature a prominent eight-metre double height frontage.

Adjacent to the new Dean Street exit of the Elizabeth line at Tottenham Court Road, the new shop comes as the group aims to expand its store estate offering customers the “convenience of being able to mix and match between shopping in-store and online”.

The company opened 12 new stores in 2022 and now trades from 216 locations nationwide.

The Fragrance Shop’s chief executive officer, Sanjay Vadera MBE, said: “The launch of a flagship store in one of the world’s most iconic retail locations is a symbol of how far we’ve come. We’ll be working hard to make sure it embodies everything that The Fragrance Shop is famous for and show the world what the future of fragrance retail looks like.

“Our flagship on Oxford Street – undoubtedly still the UK’s place to be – will be a defining moment for our business as we deliver a destination store that will give the customer an immersive retail experience. I want it to show the world that The Fragrance Shop is truly first for fragrance.”
