On this episode of Talking Shop, we're joined by Dan Cate, CEO and Founder of SoldThrough. Dan is a heavyweight retail executive who has spent decades steering the merchandising and digital operations of America’s most iconic retail institutions, from Saks Fifth Avenue and Bloomingdale’s to Century 21 and Lord & Taylor. Today, through his platform SoldThrough, Dan helps international fashion brands cross the Atlantic and crack the notoriously brutal U.S. retail landscape. We break down his journey from the shop floor to the C-suite, the operational indicators that prove a brand is truly ready for international expansion, and how to navigate a fragmented American market without destroying your margins. We also discuss how to balance localised inventory with central efficiency, and the one non-negotiable metric that tells you a product has found genuine market fit.

Sainsbury’s has opened a new Starbucks café in its New Cross Gate store, forming part of a wider expansion plan between Sainsbury’s and Starbucks across the UK, with a view to launch 30 new Starbucks cafés within Sainsbury’s stores in the next twelve months.

Elizabeth Newman, Sainsbury’s director of commercial partnerships, said: “Working together with Starbucks, we’re delighted to have reopened the first of our former cafés as a new Starbucks in our New Cross Gate supermarket.

“Our Starbucks sites have already proved very popular with Sainsbury’s customers and this launch brings the total number across our estate to 30.”

She added: “We hope our colleagues and customers in New Cross Gate enjoy their fantastic new Starbucks café and we’re looking forward to opening more within Sainsbury’s stores as our rollout programme progresses.”

Rehan Sardar, director of store development, Starbucks said: “We are pleased to be opening our new café in New Cross Gate, in partnership with Sainsbury’s.

“This is a great opportunity for customers to meet our team and we look forward to welcoming the local community to enjoy our new dining-in and takeaway moments as we introduce the Starbucks Experience across more Sainsbury’s stores nationwide.”
