Global apparel and accessories retailer Abercrombie and Fitch Co has announced the appointment of Michael Lopez as senior VP for environmental, social, and governance (ESG).

In what is a newly created role at the firm, Lopez will be tasked with leading Abercrombie’s sustainability, community giving, inclusion, and diversity initiatives.

The creation of the position comes as Abercrombie aims to embed its ESG strategy into the group’s business operations.

Fran Horowitz, CEO at Abercrombie, said that Lopez will support the group in continuing its “journey to expand” its ESG efforts to both “provide an inclusive experience” for customers and associates, and “have a positive impact” on its global communities.

Lopez most recently served as chief diversity officer at Hewlett Packard Enterprise (HPE), where he was responsible for driving inclusivity and diversity strategies at the firm.

He has also held a number of leadership positions at Goldman Sachs, Jefferies and Company, and Alcoa.

Horowitz added: “We are thrilled to welcome Michael to Abercrombie & Fitch Co.

“His proven experience across ESG functions will be vital as we look to further expand and align the important efforts of our sustainability, community giving, and inclusion and diversity teams.”
