Online retailer Amara has announced that Matthew Butlin has been appointed to the newly created role of chief technology officer (CTO).

With two decades of experience in managing technology, he specialises in building technological knowledge for “high growth, high revenue” companies.

Typical platforms that he has worked on include cloud native technologies spanning low code to full stack development. A strong believer in the use of technology to provide excellent service within a business as well as providing best in class customer service.

He will be responsible for IT strategy, aligning the requirements of the business with its web development and product teams to drive the retailer’s agile IT strategy forward.

Butlin said: “Amara is already a progressive retailer in the digital arena, and I am looking forward to building on this by supporting all technological areas to take the brand to the next stage of growth. I’m very pleased to be joining such a dynamic and creative team.”

Andrew Hood, CEO, Amara, added: “The role of CTO is the final position that we needed to fill to maintain the high double-digit growth we are still experiencing.

“Matthew brings comprehensive knowledge and experience and will undoubtedly shape our technology strategy over the coming years.”
