On this episode of Talking Shop I am joined by Zipline CEO and co-founder Melissa Wong. We discuss how Melissa’s 10 years’ of frontline experience informed her approach to building a SaaS company, the recurring operational frustrations that most head offices still underestimate, and why she believes technology should be designed with the store associate as the primary user. We also explore current trends in store execution and how retailers can bridge the gap between corporate strategy and the shop floor.

Holland and Barrett CEO Peter Aldis has stepped down after 10 years in the position, amid a leadership shake-up at the health and wellbeing retailer.

According to the retailer, Aldis has had a “long and successful” career at Holland and Barrett, spanning over 29 years, during which, the company expanded its international presence and achieved 39 consecutive quarters of like-for-like growth.

As part of the shakeup, Steve Carson has been appointed as group managing director and will be the senior operating leader of Holland and Barrett, while John Walden will undertake expanded responsibilities as executive chairman.

Commenting on his departure, Aldis said: “I am immensely proud of Holland and Barrett and of what we have achieved these past 10 years, most importantly helping our customers live a happier and healthier life.

“I am also pleased to be leaving the business in a strong position for the future and in the very capable hands of John Walden and Steve Carson who will take it on to the next level.”

Aldis will remain as an advisor to the management team to ensure a “successful transition”.
