Majestic, the UK’s largest specialist wine retailer, has begun recruiting 150 new staff as it prepares for the busy Christmas trading period.
The company is hiring a mix of permanent and temporary employees across its 216 shops. The expansion aims to strengthen its workforce ahead of the festive season and support future store growth.
Roles available include delivery drivers, sales assistants, assistant managers and trainee managers. Many positions are on flexible, low-hours contracts. Trainee managers will take part in development programmes designed to equip them with the skills needed to run a store within 12 months.
Permanent vacancies include jobs at Majestic’s new Truro store, its fifth opening this year, which is due to launch next week.
The retailer will also draw on its “Majestic Reserves” – more than 160 former employees who can take on shifts at local branches – to help manage peak demand and staff absences during the Christmas period.
The recruitment drive follows Majestic’s record 2024 festive performance, when sales grew 1.9% in the six weeks to 30 December, marking its biggest Christmas in 45 years. The company expects further growth this year.
Majestic employs more than 1,500 people across its store network, Hemel Hempstead distribution centre and Watford support office. All shop staff receive training to at least Wine and Spirit Education Trust (WSET) Level 2 standard.
Since its separation from Naked Wines plc and acquisition by Fortress Investment Group in 2019, Majestic has opened 26 new stores and refurbished dozens more. Its commercial division, which supplies more than 3,500 hospitality venues, has recorded four years of double-digit growth.
Majestic managing director Elizabeth Newman said: “We live for Christmas at Majestic – it’s our busiest time of year, but also our most exciting and most enjoyable. Our stores are always absolutely buzzing and our proposition really comes into its own, helping our customers discover new wines to taste with their friends and families over the festive period.
“If you love wine and want to join a passionate and fast-paced team, we could have the perfect role for you at Majestic. Our new colleagues will not only help us to deliver another Majestic Christmas for our retail and on-trade customers, but will set us up to drive further growth next year and beyond.”
