Frasers Group Sport MD to step down in November

Frasers Group Sport MD to step down in November

On this episode of Talking Shop, we're joined by Dan Cate, CEO and Founder of SoldThrough. Dan is a heavyweight retail executive who has spent decades steering the merchandising and digital operations of America’s most iconic retail institutions, from Saks Fifth Avenue and Bloomingdale’s to Century 21 and Lord & Taylor. Today, through his platform SoldThrough, Dan helps international fashion brands cross the Atlantic and crack the notoriously brutal U.S. retail landscape. We break down his journey from the shop floor to the C-suite, the operational indicators that prove a brand is truly ready for international expansion, and how to navigate a fragmented American market without destroying your margins. We also discuss how to balance localised inventory with central efficiency, and the one non-negotiable metric that tells you a product has found genuine market fit.

Frasers Group has announced that Ger Wright will be stepping down from her role of managing director of sport on 30 November, which has held since 2022.

During her time as MD, Wright has been credited with making a “significant” contribution to the execution of the group’s elevation strategy.

As a result, the group’s sport proposition has evolved during her tenure with the introduction of its running and outdoor concepts, the onboarding of new brands and international expansion into new markets.

According to the group, she will leave behind a “talented and ambitious” team who will continue to evolve and drive the elevation strategy in the sport category.

Wright will remain on the retail group’s board as a non-executive director.

Michael Murray, CEO of Frasers Group, said: “Ger has been an exceptional leader for Frasers Group and we are grateful for her contribution.

“We look forward to continuing to benefit from Ger’s sector expertise as a non-executive director as we further accelerate the group’s ambitions in Sport.”
