Verte and Round Retail launch pop-up shop

On this episode of Talking Shop, we're joined by Dan Cate, CEO and Founder of SoldThrough. Dan is a heavyweight retail executive who has spent decades steering the merchandising and digital operations of America’s most iconic retail institutions, from Saks Fifth Avenue and Bloomingdale’s to Century 21 and Lord & Taylor. Today, through his platform SoldThrough, Dan helps international fashion brands cross the Atlantic and crack the notoriously brutal U.S. retail landscape. We break down his journey from the shop floor to the C-suite, the operational indicators that prove a brand is truly ready for international expansion, and how to navigate a fragmented American market without destroying your margins. We also discuss how to balance localised inventory with central efficiency, and the one non-negotiable metric that tells you a product has found genuine market fit.

The Sloane Stanley Estate has announced that Verte and Round Retail have launched a collaborative pop-up shop at 340 King’s Road, in support of local mental health charity, SMART.

Verte, the pop-up swap shop for pre-loved fashion, and Round Retail, which aims to bridge the gap between fashion resale and charitable stores, have created a two-week shopping experience where customers can buy and swap pre-loved fashion items from mid-luxury brands.

The pop-up encourages visitors to celebrate fashion that already exists within the economy, boasting curated collections from brands such as Whistles, Acne Studios, Rixo, and Toast.

Nestled in the heart of Chelsea, the 1,178 sq ft store will also host a series of events throughout its time on King’s Road, such as crochet and Galentine’s beading workshops, as well as offering free repairs with The Seam, further encouraging a circular approach to shopping.

The funds raised will go to SMART, which aims to help people suffering from mental health issues by providing paid employment opportunities through community businesses, such as cafes, gardens, and more.

Hannah Grievson, property director at Sloane Stanley, said: “Our on-demand pop-up leasing strategy enables us to be flexible and innovative, and concepts such as the Verte and Round Retail store demonstrate our ability to be adaptive and forward-thinking with our prime retail units. This pop-up will provide our local catchment with the ability to shop and swap their fashion favourites, all while supporting an amazing charity.”

Jessica Brunt, founder of Verte, said: “The King’s Road is an iconic destination within London, and it is such a privilege to be able to trade here and raise money for SMART. We are on a mission to encourage shoppers to be more sustainable while bringing people together through their love of fashion.”

Annie Hought, founder at Round Retail, added: “We are so excited to collaborate with Verte for this pop-up, and the Sloane Stanley team have been fantastic in enabling our vision. Accessibility is a key part of making sustainable shopping front-of-mind, and we look forward to encouraging more people to adopt a more circular approach.”
