Footasylum to expand store portfolio amid increased demand

On this episode of Talking Shop, we're joined by Dan Cate, CEO and Founder of SoldThrough. Dan is a heavyweight retail executive who has spent decades steering the merchandising and digital operations of America’s most iconic retail institutions, from Saks Fifth Avenue and Bloomingdale’s to Century 21 and Lord & Taylor. Today, through his platform SoldThrough, Dan helps international fashion brands cross the Atlantic and crack the notoriously brutal U.S. retail landscape. We break down his journey from the shop floor to the C-suite, the operational indicators that prove a brand is truly ready for international expansion, and how to navigate a fragmented American market without destroying your margins. We also discuss how to balance localised inventory with central efficiency, and the one non-negotiable metric that tells you a product has found genuine market fit.

Footasylum, the retailer of fashion streetwear and sportswear, has announced its plans for a series of new store openings and upgrades across the country in the year ahead.

The plans come as the retailer has experienced a “notable” increase in demand for its womenswear, following the recent opening of a Footasylum location in Cheshunt, Hertfordshire in December 2022. This was its first new opening since April 2021 and its first under the ownership of Aurelius Group, which acquired the retailer in August 2022.

Currently, the retailer has confirmed store openings in Watford and Hertfordshire, which will be officially opened in the third quarter of this year.

According to Footasylum, other store openings will be announced in due course, and include plans for a high profile site in central London

The new Watford store will take up 6,000 sq ft in the Harlequin shopping centre, bringing the retailer’s total to 60 stores nationwide.

In addition, the company is also upgrading a number of its existing sites in Westfield Stratford City, Leeds White Rose and Lakeside Shopping Centre in Essex. Upon completion, all of these stores will be significantly bigger in size and will provide a comprehensive mens, junior and womenswear offering.

Barry Brown, executive chairman and CEO of Footasylum, said: “We have exciting plans to develop even bigger and better stores to cater for the growing demand for our brands. Our expansion plans will help ensure that our extensive product offering is given greater prominence and availability across the UK.”
