Amara appoints new COO

On this episode of Talking Shop, we're joined by Dan Cate, CEO and Founder of SoldThrough. Dan is a heavyweight retail executive who has spent decades steering the merchandising and digital operations of America’s most iconic retail institutions, from Saks Fifth Avenue and Bloomingdale’s to Century 21 and Lord & Taylor. Today, through his platform SoldThrough, Dan helps international fashion brands cross the Atlantic and crack the notoriously brutal U.S. retail landscape. We break down his journey from the shop floor to the C-suite, the operational indicators that prove a brand is truly ready for international expansion, and how to navigate a fragmented American market without destroying your margins. We also discuss how to balance localised inventory with central efficiency, and the one non-negotiable metric that tells you a product has found genuine market fit.

Amara, an interior online retailer, has announced that Mark Higgins has been appointed to the newly created position of chief operations officer (COO).

Having spent 24 years at Charles Tyrwhitt, he has since been consulting for several businesses, helping build and develop operations, infrastructure and customer service.

At his new position, he will be working closely with fulfilment, logistics and customer care to manage and advance these functions for improved day-to-day operational performance and future growth globally.

He said: “Amara is a progressive retailer that has already developed an excellent customer experience; I will be building on this by supporting all operational areas to take the brand to the next stage of growth.

“I’m thrilled to be joining such an experienced team and dynamic business.”

Andrew Hood, CEO, Amara, added: “I’m delighted to welcome Mark to the Amara team. His experience and expertise will be invaluable as we move into the next phase of growth.

“We have an exciting journey ahead of us and will be continuing to build the brand both in the UK and internationally. The new COO role sets us apart from our competitors and allows us to be an early adaptor to changes within the market and needs from our customers”.
