Quiz reopens online operations

On this episode of Talking Shop, we're joined by Dan Cate, CEO and Founder of SoldThrough. Dan is a heavyweight retail executive who has spent decades steering the merchandising and digital operations of America’s most iconic retail institutions, from Saks Fifth Avenue and Bloomingdale’s to Century 21 and Lord & Taylor. Today, through his platform SoldThrough, Dan helps international fashion brands cross the Atlantic and crack the notoriously brutal U.S. retail landscape. We break down his journey from the shop floor to the C-suite, the operational indicators that prove a brand is truly ready for international expansion, and how to navigate a fragmented American market without destroying your margins. We also discuss how to balance localised inventory with central efficiency, and the one non-negotiable metric that tells you a product has found genuine market fit.

British Fashion retailer Quiz has revealed it has reopened its online operations after it added “additional safety measures” to keep its employees safe.

Quiz stores have been closed since the 22 March with its online operations also closing a couple of days later.

However, it has now taken the decision to reopen the groups distribution centre with operations “undertaken by employees who are willing and able to return to work safely”.

In the update it said: “Further to the group’s update on 27 March 2020, Quiz announces that it has reopened its online operations. Quiz’s own website, quizclothing.co.uk, is now fully functional, albeit offering standard delivery services only.

“Quiz’s priority remains the safety and wellbeing of its people. In order to service its own website sales, the group’s distribution centre (the DC) is reopening and will operate in strict accordance with all government and health authority guidance.”

It added: “Operations will be undertaken by employees who are willing and able to return to work safely, and the group has significantly reduced the number of employees working in the DC at any given time to enable strict social distancing.

“A number of additional safety measures have also been implemented, including deep cleaning and the provision of personal protection equipment in order to keep its employees safe and protected.”

The news comes after Quiz warned that its March revenues and margins are expected to be “materially low” compared with the board’s expectations amid the coronavirus pandemic.

Quiz said that prior to the Covid-19 outbreak, its year-to-date performance was set to be in line with expectations.
