Footasylum has revealed its profit before tax  jumped 188% to £17.2m and its operating profits more than doubled to £21.7m, in the year to 25 January 2025.

It comes as it reported a 9.4% rise in revenues to £349.5m amid strong consumer demand for its exclusive brands and new store openings.

During the period, store sales increased 3% to £172.6m, with online revenues up 6% to £143.1m, with sales of exclusive brands surging 101% to £33.7m. The group’s category of exclusive brands now accounts for 10% of overall revenue.

The footwear retailer also confirmed its EBITDA rose 26% to £28.2m.

The company continued to expand its store estate during the year, opening five new sites in Aberdeen, Warrington, Doncaster, Rotherham and Wrexham, and upsizing locations in Gateshead and Dudley. It also secured a £35m revolving credit facility from HSBC to support further investment.

David Pujolar, chief executive of Footasylum, said: “These results reflect progress across all areas of the business, from store expansion and the growth of our exclusive brands, through to the continued success of our omnichannel model and our focus on first-class customer service.

“Our brand recognition, particularly among our core 16–24 demographic, continues to grow, supported by our distinctive content and social strategy. This was acknowledged in two recent awards wins, both recognising Footasylum for its groundbreaking approach to social media and content.”

In the first 21 weeks of the current financial year, sales rose 10.5% on the same period a year earlier, with like-for-like retail sales up 6% and exclusive brand sales up 17%. The group’s gross margin was also ahead of both last year and expectations.

In addition, junior and nursery categories performed strongly, increasing 42% and 45% respectively.

The retailer opened a new store in West Bromwich in June, with six more openings planned this year, including at Parc Trostre in Llanelli in August, and an upsized Leeds Trinity Centre store due in early 2026. It has also invested in a new customer app, with the first phase launching in July.

Pujolar added: “Our relationships with leading global brands – including Nike, Adidas and New Balance – also continue to go from strength to strength, and remain central to our offer. While the wider macroeconomic environment remains challenging, demand for our unique offer remains strong. The creativity and energy of our people, without whom none of this would be possible, continues to set us apart.”
