On this episode of Talking Shop I am joined by Zipline CEO and co-founder Melissa Wong. We discuss how Melissa’s 10 years’ of frontline experience informed her approach to building a SaaS company, the recurring operational frustrations that most head offices still underestimate, and why she believes technology should be designed with the store associate as the primary user. We also explore current trends in store execution and how retailers can bridge the gap between corporate strategy and the shop floor.

ProCook has announced the appointment of Joe Pennington as its new retail director.

In the past Pennington has held key roles at renowned brands such as Ralph Lauren, Topshop/Topman, White Stuff, and most recently has spent the last eight years with Charles Tyrwhitt.

In these previous roles he was said to have played an “integral role” in talent development and internal succession during his career, ensuring strong leadership across store networks.

As retail director at ProCook, Pennington will oversee the company’s retail strategy, enhancing the in-store experience and supporting ProCook’s store expansion plans.

Pennington said: “I’m incredibly excited to be joining ProCook at such an exciting stage of its growth journey. I look forward to working closely with the teams to lead the company’s growth and store expansion plans. The teams are the heartbeat of every store, and I firmly believe that by working together, we can achieve great success.”

Lee Tappenden, ProCook CEO, added: “We are thrilled to welcome Joe to the ProCook family. His experience, leadership, and passion for people and retail excellence align perfectly with our vision for growth. With Joe at the helm of our retail operations, we are confident in our ability to strengthen our in-store presence and deliver exceptional customer experiences.”

This appointment comes after the company opened a new store in Milton KeynesCentre:mk on 21 February, as part of its expansion drive.

Opened in Silbury Arcade, the new 2,760 sq ft store offers an extensive range of cookware, tableware and kitchen accessories.

The store allows customers to interact with the in-store team who will be able to provide guidance across the range, test products before purchasing and even customise kitchenware and tableware.
