On this episode of Talking Shop, we're joined by Dan Cate, CEO and Founder of SoldThrough. Dan is a heavyweight retail executive who has spent decades steering the merchandising and digital operations of America’s most iconic retail institutions, from Saks Fifth Avenue and Bloomingdale’s to Century 21 and Lord & Taylor. Today, through his platform SoldThrough, Dan helps international fashion brands cross the Atlantic and crack the notoriously brutal U.S. retail landscape. We break down his journey from the shop floor to the C-suite, the operational indicators that prove a brand is truly ready for international expansion, and how to navigate a fragmented American market without destroying your margins. We also discuss how to balance localised inventory with central efficiency, and the one non-negotiable metric that tells you a product has found genuine market fit.

Mint Velvet, the British womenswear brand, has opened its new boutique and debut Milton Keynes location, within centre:mk’s premium Silbury Arcade.

Spanning 2,100 sq ft, the store offers Mint Velvet’s latest collection of womenswear footwear, and accessories.

Designed by London-based StudioJill, the interior reflects the brand’s “distinct relaxed glamour identity”.

This city debut builds on the centre’s first-class womenswear selection, joining premium brands such as Reiss, Jigsaw, Phase Eight, and The White Company, alongside Mango and H&M.

The opening of Mint Velvet follows the recent success of centre:mk’s Fashion Weekend, which showcased the latest looks and trends from the centre’s quality line-up of brands to over 113,600 visitors.

Kevin Duffy, centre:mk’s centre director, said: “With a large affluent catchment area, this new Mint Velvet’s Boutique is a welcome addition to our premium offer which further enables us to cater to our customers’ demand for premium womenswear. The opening of Mint Velvet’s city debut reflects the brand’s confidence in our centre and further reinforces centre:mk’s status as a leading UK shopping destination in the region and beyond.”
