On this episode of Talking Shop I am joined by Zipline CEO and co-founder Melissa Wong. We discuss how Melissa’s 10 years’ of frontline experience informed her approach to building a SaaS company, the recurring operational frustrations that most head offices still underestimate, and why she believes technology should be designed with the store associate as the primary user. We also explore current trends in store execution and how retailers can bridge the gap between corporate strategy and the shop floor.

Barbour has announced the promotion of Paul Wilkinson, the brand’s global marketing, commercial and managing director in the US, as the new managing director for the UK and Ireland, according to Drapers

Wilkinson replaces Ryan Llewellyn-Pace, who departed the brand earlier this March.

According to Drapers, Llewellyn-Pace will be heading his own consultancy, Pace Partnership London, following his departure from the outerwear brand.

In his new role, Wilkinson will report to group managing director Steve Buck.

He first joined the retailer in 2013 from Protest Boardwear, where he was also managing director of UK operations. He held several senior executive posts at the business including head of marketing.

The appointment comes following reports last week that the company’s chair Dame Margaret and vice chair Helen Barbour were named in the Sunday Times Rich List, having accrued a combined fortune of £537m from sales of Barbour’s waxed jackets and boots

The South Shields-based family business was founded by John Barbour in 1894. His grandson, Duncan, is credited with expanding the business with the world-famous wax jackets through his extensions into motorcycling suits and jackets utilising oil cloth.
