Hotel Chocolat has announced it has closed its online shop in the United States, ceasing direct-to-consumer sales in the country.

The retailer has closed all of its in-country warehouses and fulfilment arrangements.

It comes after Hotel Chocolat had previously announced that investment levels in the USA will be “materially reduced”, with ongoing investment limited to essential working capital only

In July, the group said that it would deliberately focus its efforts over the next three years on “its most proven and lowest-risk strategies” with the greatest potential for further increased profitability and scaled cash generation.

On the retailer’s US site, it now reads: “It is with great regret that we have made the difficult decision to close our online shop in the US. We’ve had a lot of love for our chocolate and hot chocolate, and we’ve spread a little chocolate happiness around the US.This website is now closed to new customer orders.

“We would like to thank all of our customers who have supported us and enjoyed our chocolate and hot chocolate. If you have an enquiry about an existing order or product, please go to our Contact us Page for details on how to get in touch. Our Union Station store (Washington) will remain open until the fall. Thank you once again.”
