The PetDen is offering to look after the pets of Tesco customers while they shop, by pampering them at its grooming facility held in the supermarket’s car park.

Run by salon manager Liane Shield and groomer Lizz Charlton, prices for the services are dependent on the dog’s height and coat type.

Shield is a Level 2 City & Guilds qualified groomer, trained by Marie Burns (Crufts 2016 Winner) and Charlton is a Level 3 City & Guilds groomer.

Shoppers can leave their dog at the PetDen while they go and shop and come back to a pampered pooch; a full groom starts from £30 and a bath alone is from £12. The PetDen also do extra services such as ‘puppy’s first visit’, nail clipping and a Dead Sea mud bath.

The PetDen has two climate-controlled cabins connected by CCTV as well as a crate-care service for dogs at £5 per hour. All crates have a vet bed and fresh water and dogs are taken for regular comfort breaks. The maximum stay for dogs is three hours and one hour for puppies.

The PetDen carry out initial health checks on all dogs who visit to prevent the risk of fleas and kennel cough. It also has hygiene procedures in place to prevent against any infectious diseases. No dog comes into contact with another at any time, so no Ectoparasites can be passed. Both groomers will be first aid trained by a veterinary nurse.

The PetDen is a sister company to Waves Consultancy who operate the Tesco Hand Car Wash estate, including the hand car wash in Kingston Park Tesco Extra.

Robert Mercer, director of the Waves Group, who operates The PetDen, said, “We are very excited to have this new opportunity with Tesco at their Extra store in Newcastle. Liane has been training and preparing for this opportunity for years and we are delighted that the first PetDen is opening in her home town. Both Liane and Liz are delighted to be providing Tesco’s customers in Newcastle with such an exciting new opportunity with expert grooming and excellent customer service.”

Shield added: “I am really looking forward to launching the business and look forward to providing Tesco shoppers with a great service for them and their pets. We will be employing one full time groomer to begin with but we hope to expand this very quickly as we build the business. We are both mad about dogs and can reassure our customers that we will treat their pets as if they were our own. We cannot wait to open the doors!”
